Laser Bacterial Reduction for
Periodontal Disease

A dental hygienist at Madison No Fear Dentistry provides dental care.

At Madison No Fear Dentistry we are constantly researching, learning and striving to advance the standard of patient care in our office. After discovering that the CDC reports over 70% of those 65 and older have some form of periodontal disease we felt it was necessary to provide an optional procedure to help battle the disease.

By adding laser bacterial reduction to our services we are now able to provide our patients with the most advanced methods to treat gum disease, remove bacteria and address the underlying infection that causes periodontal disease.  Be sure to ask your hygienist  for more information on this painless process towards better dental health.

What is Laser Bacterial Reduction?

We now have the ability to attack this periodontal inflammation at the microscopic level through the

use of our dental soft tissue lasers. The focused light power of the laser targets the bacterial colonies

that are otherwise inaccessible, while simultaneously promoting an environment of healing.

Through LBR, we are able to drastically reduce the harmful bacteria that causes inflammation and gum

disease. This treatment is not a substitute for other procedure or cleanings, but rather an additional

non-invasive and quick procedure that we offer to help improve your oral and overall health.

What are the benefits of Laser Bacterial Reduction?

1.) To reduce or eliminate bacteria in the blood.

During the normal cleaning process, some patients may have areas that bleed allowing bacteria (that is

present in all our mouths) to flood into the bloodstream which can sometimes settle in weakened areas

of our body such as a damaged heart valve or artificial knee. The latest research shows that these oral

pathogens have now been linked to a number of other diseases such as cardiovascular disease,

rheumatoid arthritis, low birth weight infants, diabetes, etc...

Needless to say, anything that we can do to reduce or eliminate these bacteremias is a positive for our patients.

2.)To prevent cross contamination of infection.

Decontamination minimizes the chance a bacterial

infection is inadvertently picked up in one area of your mouth and move it to another location.

3.)To kill periodontal disease bacteria and stop their infections before they cause physical destruction or

loss of attachment around your teeth.

4.)To boost your immune system and improve your overall health

The laser decontamination process is painless and normally takes about 5-10 minutes. We circle the

teeth with the laser within the surrounding gum pockets to destroy the bacteria. Unfortunately, this

process is not covered by insurance, but it is a minimal fee. Please ask your hygienist if you have any questions regarding this treatment.

Great staff. Even though I was in a lot of pain when I went in they were very kind and explained everything and were able to accommodate me with a quick appointment to take care of my pain issue.
