Name: Mike G.
Occupation: Registered Dental Hygienist.
Number of years with MNFD: I started working here in August of 2006.
I grew up in Hinsdale, Illinois and later moved to Clarendon Hills, Illinois.
I will be married to my wife Teresa for 20 years on Feb 25th. We have a house full of pets that keep us busy: two cats, Oliver and Maggie, and two birds, Buster and Bella.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I was split between careers in health care or engineering.
What was your first job?
My first job was at Osco Drug during high school. I also ran my own landscaping and lawn care business in the summer, which eventually turned into home repair as well. For a number of years, I owned and operated Badger Remodeling. Our primary focus was on residential remodeling including custom millwork and cabinetry. However, I briefly did some commercial projects. My largest commercial project was a complete tear out and remodel of a periodontal office in Milwaukee.
What is your favorite sport to watch and/or play?
My favorite sport to watch is football. I love watersports especially skiing, wakeboarding, and barefooting. I think my favorite water toy is the sky ski. For years, one of our favorite water toys was our parasail. Although it was a long time ago, I was in the water ski show for about 12 years. During that time, I skied just about every different act in the show. I guess looking back my favorite thing was jumping (although I will say some of the landings were my least favorite part). I also enjoy biking, snow shoeing, cross country and downhill skiing.
What was your favorite band(s) in high school?
I don’t know that I had one favorite band. It was the 80’s. I listened to a lot of different music.
Where is your favorite vacation spot?
My favorite vacation spot is our family cabin in Northern Wisconsin. We spend as much time as possible there.
Name one thing on your bucket list:
I started taking flying lessons in college, but did not finish. Someday when I have time, I would like to do that again.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I am completely ambidextrous; I can do almost everything equally well with both hands.
What are you really bad at that you’d love to be good at?
Making time for myself... I have a bad habit of getting myself into projects to help other people. Someday, I may decide to make recreational time for myself.
What is something about you that might surprise us?
Many people may already know this about me, but in 2013, I let myself get up to almost 300 pounds. In just under a year, I was able to lose 92 pounds and have successfully stayed under my goal weight for the last year!
What is your favorite part of working at MNFD?
My favorite part of working here is the interaction with my patients. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is helping people who have so much anxiety about dental treatment that they require sedation for treatment. Many of these people have such great experiences that they eventually actually look forward to, and enjoy coming into see us.
