Madison No Fear Dentistry

Meet Hillary

Name:  Hillary Y.
Occupation: Registered Dental Hygienist
Number of Years at MNFD:  3.5 years

Hometown: Born in Rockford, IL; grew up in Machesney Park, IL

Most of my family is still in Rockford, Dad- Jim, Mom- Becky, Step Dad- Ken, Older Sister- Stephanie, and my Niece Holly.  I also have an older brother- Tim who lives in LA. My in-laws are in New Orleans.  Here in Madison, it is my husband Sean, cat Ahmad, dog Rue, and I.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be an orthodontist when I was younger.  However, that changed when I learned how long you have to attend school.  So Dental Hygienist sounded even better to me because I get to transform smiles in one or two appointments instead of several years.

What was your first job?
I worked at a grocery store named Save A Lot.  I stayed at that place for 7 years! Shout out to the Save A Lot crew, they all became like family to me.  (One was even my sister)  The atmosphere there was much like it is here at MNFD.

What are your hobbies/interests?
My biggest hobby is starting new hobbies and not following through with them.  I have stuck with a few over the years though which are golfing, reading, trying new beer, and relaxing with my boyfriend and cat.

What is your favorite sport to watch and/or play?
Favorite to play is Frisbee.  Favorite to watch is Hockey.  I’m a huge Blackhawks fan.  I worked for their farm team, The Rockford Icehogs, for 3 seasons as a cheerleader/ promotional team leader.  My second most watch sport is probably Soccer, because it’s my boyfriend’s favorite sport.

What is your biggest pet-peeve?
I am very laid back as a person, so getting on my nerves is very difficult. About the only thing that really ruffles my feather is when I come across stupid drivers, I become a different beast.

What is your favorite band(s) in high school?
Fall Out Boy, The Academy Is, Amber Pacific, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.  I looked forward to warped tour every year.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?
I have two of those, Cedar Point which is an amusement park in Ohio, and New Orleans, LA.  They both are so much fun no matter how many times you experience them. There is always a new place to see.

Name one thing on your Bucket List:
Perform as a back-up dancer; either on stage with a famous artist or in a music video.

Do you have any hidden talents?
I can hula hoop for hours at a time without dropping it.  I even learned how to do fun tricks like turning while hooping.  I am still working on a few skills.

What are you really bad at, that you’d love to be great at?
I wish I was great at cooking.  I wouldn’t say I am really bad at it now, but unless there are instruction on a box or I have a recipe to follow directly, I will probably mess it up.

What is something about you that might surprise us?
I have a Molar Bear tattooed on my foot.  If you don’t know what it is, Google it!

What is your favorite part of working at MNFD?
Everyone who works here is so friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable.  I’ve learned something from everyone I work with, and no one will ever turn down the opportunity to help another person, whether it’s a coworker or a patient.
